Relationships, and the Proper Management of Intoxicated Women
The first season of Adam-12, one of the early “cop shows” was aired in 1968. Officers Pete Malloy (the experienced one, carrying badge number 744) and Jim Reed (the rookie, with badge number 2430) took all sorts of calls on their beat, and many of them provided situations that served as object lessons in life for young viewers. Especially the young boys who primarily watched the show while their sisters played with Barbie dolls.
In this clip, two intoxicated women are managed very skilfully by the officers, who exhibit the outstanding skill of knowing when to get out of Dodge. They are pleased and amused by the situation, which gives the young viewers an indication of what it looks like when all’s well that ends well.

This was actually evidence of progress: Ten years earlier Ricky would have spanked Lucy for embarrassing him in front of the cops. ‘Course we don’t know what hard hat did once the cops left. How did he make the ladies clean up the house?
